Sevilla's Antonio Puerta was rushed to intensive care of a local hospital after appearing to suffer cardiac arrest twice during Sevilla's 4-1 win against nine-man Getafe.

The Spain defender passed out on the field in the 31st before walking off under his own strength. Sevilla president Jose Maria Del Nido said Puerta's heart was massaged after he passed out a second time in the dressing room. Del Nido said Puerta was in stable condition.

At the Nueva Condomina, newly promoted Murcia beat Zaragoza 2-1.

After experimenting with different lineups during a preseason where Madrid lost six games, Schuster's team only had three new faces compared to the squad that won the league last season Sneijder and defenders Pepe and Royston Drenthe.

New signings Arjen Robben and Gabriel Heinze were absent after joining the team on Thursday in a matchup that featured the two biggest offseason spenders.

Raul paraded Madrid's record 30th league trophy to the fans before the start of the match, when Tour de France winner Alberto Contador kicked the ceremonial first ball of the season.

The celebrations were short-lived after Ruud van Nistelrooy deflected Mariano Pernia's corner straight into the path of Aguero for an easy goal.

Attacking with a sense of urgency, Madrid dominated from that point as goalkeeper Leo Franco blocked Robinho's point-blank shot from the right one minute before Raul headed in Sergio Ramos' cross to equalize.

Both teams showed pace throughout, with Franco stopping Robinho from short range before Ramos' header glanced off the post.

Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas made two stops on Diego Forlan before the end of the half.

The flow of play maintained its pace in the second half, with Franco's face getting in the way of Van Nistelrooy's point-blank shot in the 74th.

Sneijder, who joined from Ajax for €27 million (US$37 million), struck his winner from just outside the area after receiving a pass from Jose Maria "Guti" Gutierrez off a free kick.

Casillas denied Aguero an equalizer two minutes into injury time by pushing his chip shot out of the area.

Pablo Hernandez's free kick handed Getafe coach Michael Laudrup, Schuster's replacement, a lead 3 minutes in at the Sanchez Ramon Pizjuan.

Down to nine men inside 26 minutes, Getafe held for the rest of the first half as goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri parried Sergio Duda's free kick over the crossbar in the 36th.

But Jesus Nava equalized in the 46th, heading down Duda's long cross past an outstretched Abbondanzieri. Luis Fabiano headed the winner in the 67th before strikers Frederic Kanoute and Alexander Kerzhakov added the others.

Fernando Baiano scored the winner in the 68th to lead Murcia over UEFA Cup qualifier Zaragoza.

New signing Ricardo Oliveira scored in the 30th to equalize Alvaro Meija's 18th minute opener.

On Sunday, FC Barcelona unveils new signing Thierry Henry for the first time against Racing Santander.

In other matches, it's Athletic Bilbao vs. Osasuna; Mallorca vs. Levante; Valencia vs. Villarreal; Deportivo La Coruna vs. Almeria; Espanyol vs. Valladolid; and Recreativo Huelva vs. Real Betis.
