Agüero awesome as Czechs fall in final.
Club Atlético de Madrid prodigy Sergio Agüero was again the inspiration as Argentina came from behind to win a record sixth FIFA U-20 World Cup at the expense of the Czech Republic.
Fenin first
Flying the flag for the six UEFA nations who qualified for the 2007 finals in Canada, the Czechs were always the underdogs in tonight’s decisive contest in Toronto. However, they looked on course for a famous victory when FK Teplice midfielder Martin Fenin put them in front on the hour with a superb turn and shot only for the 19-year-old Agüero, captaining his country and the player of the tournament, to score his sixth goal of the competition almost immediately. With four minutes remaining, substitute Mauro Zárate struck from 20 metres to break Czech hearts.
Austria beaten
Earlier on Sunday, Austria were 1-0 losers to Chile in the third-placed play-off after a goal by Hans Martínez just before half-time. Austria had been beaten 2-0 by the Czech Republic in the semi-finals but can still take comfort from getting so far. Spain were the next best of the UEFA performers, reaching the quarter-finals before also falling to the Czechs while Portugal and Poland both fell in the Round of 16. Scotland were the only European nation not to get beyond the group stage of the finals, which began with 24 entrants from across the world back on 30 June.
